About Our Guest Musicians: Aeris Brass (Trombone Quartet)

Aeris Brass (trombone quartet) - free concert in Esher Elmbridge Surrey
Aeris Brass – Ian Sankey, Martin Lee Thomson, Ali Goodwin & Adam Crighton
Genre: Classical, Folk, Theatre, Jazz

The Aeris Quartet was formed in 2015 by four very talented young trombonists who aim to push the boundaries of what might be expected from a brass ensemble. With a number of newly commissioned works, they are exploring music never before played on the trombone. They have performed with internationally renowned soloists and completed successful tours both across the UK and abroad.

This concert should provide an exciting start to our autumn season.

Aeris Brass - Concert in Esher at Christ Church

Programme For Tau Wey’s Concert

Pictures at an Exhibition is nowadays best known in the orchestral version by Ravel. However, it is the original version for piano with its powerful immediacy and potent crudeness that we are going to hear today. Mussorgsky composed Pictures as a memorial to his friend, the Russian artist Viktor Hartmann, who had died in 1873 at age 39. Shortly after the artist’s death, Mussorgsky visited a retrospective exhibit of Hartmann’s sketches, stage designs, and architectural studies and captured the experience imaginatively in music.

Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte also has a double life as an orchestral piece. It is a beautifully evocative dance in the neo-classical style, and inspired by a picture of a little dancing princess by Velazquez.

Ginastera was one of the most important Argentine composers. The Danzas Argentinas, though they do not relate to pictures and have not been orchestrated, are wonderfully descriptive pieces ideally written for the virtuosic medium of the piano.

About Music On The Green

MUSIC on the GREEN is based at Christ Church Esher directly opposite and overlooking Esher Green. Its aims are to promote a wide variety of excellent music, to present music in a fresh and engaging way, and to encourage audiences from Esher and beyond.
Our concerts take place in Christ Church at the heart of Esher – a church which boasts an outstanding pipe organ, fine grand piano acquired in 2012 with a very generous loan, and good acoustics which all contribute to making our music so enjoyable.

MUSIC on the GREEN is about making music which is accessible to, and enjoyable by, as many people as possible without it being stuffy or cheapened. This is the reason for the MUSIC on the GREEN ‘brand’ – to give the music an identity of its own.
Music is about people, emotions, history… We blend all these ingredients and seek to present our music in interesting and rewarding ways, within its own context so that it can be widely appreciated and enjoyed. Whilst having our firmest foot planted at the classical end of the spectrum, we seek to offer a rich and varied listening programme.
