NHS Mental Health Safe Havens in Surrey – open evenings, weekends & bank holidays – designed to give adults a safe alternative to A&E when in crisis
NHS Safe Havens – Woking, Guildford, Epsom, Aldershot, Redhill, Camberley Surrey
Safe Havens provide out of hours help and support to people and their carers who are experiencing a mental health crisis or emotional distress.
They are Cafe style drop-in centres, run in partnership with NHS and other local charities. There are six services open in town centre locations across Surrey and North East Hampshire to residents of any district or borough within this area. So, for example, if you live in Epsom you could go to the Guildford Safe Haven.
They are open evenings, weekends and bank holidays and are designed to give adults a safe alternative to A&E when in crisis (please see individual services for detailed opening times).
Each Safe Haven is staffed by a mental health practitioner from Surrey and Borders Partnership and two trained Safe Haven workers. Peer support from people with lived experience of mental health issues is also increasingly available.
The Safe Havens are provided by a partnership between our Trust and third sector mental health specialists which is funded by Surrey and N E Hants’ NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups.

Why Safe Haven?
If you’re seeking urgent mental health support during evenings and weekends you might feel you have nowhere to go and turn to your local A&E for face-to-face help and advice.
A&E isn’t always the best place however – it can be busy and isn’t staffed by mental health professionals. This is why local NHS and voluntary sector organisations have teamed up to create six Safe Havens which are:
- Specifically designed to support those in mental distress
- Staffed by mental health professionals and peer support workers
- Able to address your symptoms in a timely way and offer information and advice about other relevant services in your area
- Supporting you to stay well at home
