The Desborough Players present “Dick Whittington”.
Script by Alan P Frayn directed by Jane Cairns
Looking Back – Dick Whittington Was A Sell Out
‘Oh Yes It Is’
The Desborough Players drama group, based in Walton on Thames, had another record setting sell-out panto of Dick Whittington this year. The panto was performed at the Cecil Hepworth Play house in Walton in the second week of January, delighting audiences young and old.
The group pride themselves on putting on a pantomime each year that entertains the local community, including a private performance to the Mencap charity on the Thursday night. Members of the public flocked to see the show on the Friday to the Sunday.
Reviews were strong saying that this was their best one yet! It is directed each year by the talented actress and director Jane Cairns who was very proud of the group “It was a great family show with something for everyone. Ticket sales have gone from strength to strength and we even had to turn people away! We would like to thank everyone who came to support us”.

About The Desborough Players
Local amateur dramatic group The Desborough Players was formed in 1946 by the ladies of the Weybridge Ladies Rowing Club as a winter activity when they were not on the river. The group has continued to put on productions ever since, usually with a pantomime around Christmas time and one or two productions in the form of plays during the year. They have also entered pieces in various local drama festivals often winning awards for their performances.
No longer just a ladies group it has a membership of all ages some of whom have been with the group over 51 years.
As always the group is on the lookout for new members to either perform on stage or take on the equally important roles behind the scenes, to enable the group to continue for maybe another 70 years.
