Basti treatments
Basti means “to stay in place inside”.
In this Ayurvedic Hot Oil therapy, a dough ring made of flour is formed and placed on the chosen area of the body, then warm, herb-infused oil is poured in. When the oil cools down, it is removed and another portion of warm oil is poured again.
The oil creates a deep, penetrating heat that radiates through the muscles releasing tension and stiffness. This procedure is repeated a couple of times and finished with gentle massage of the treated area of the body.

Ayurvedic Hot Stone Massage
Ayurvedic Hot Stone Massage, known as Shila Abhyanga (or ‘stone massage’), aims to stimulate vital marma or energy points in order to release energy blocks, improve blood circulation and help improve the body’s removal of waste products.
Shila Abhyanga is part of svedana therapy (also known as thermotherapy). It involves the use of herbal Ayurvedic oils and hot basalt stones of varying sizes and shapes to give a slow, deep tissue massage.
Hot Stone Massage
Basalt stones are formed from the hot lava that spills out of a volcano as it erupts. These have been exposed to sun, wind, heat, rain and cold conditions over many millennia – during this time each stone is compressed to form a concentrated mass of minerals and crystals. These mineral stones are rich in iron and are well known for their heat and cold retention properties.
During the massage, water-heated basalt stones are placed at specific sites on the client’s body to promote relaxation and to help open up the nadis (energy pathways), release energy blocks and to allow Ayurvedic herbal oils to penetrate deep beneath the skin’s surface. The warm stones expand the blood vessels and push blood and unwanted waste products through the body.
Hot stone massage creates a state of deep relaxation, gives a sensation of comfort and warmth, has a calming effect on the nervous system and promotes the healing process.
It also has a rejuvenating effect on the whole body: by improving circulation the massage facilitates the cleansing of all systems, particularly the lymphatic system. It is a very grounding, relaxing, restorative and healing experience.
Cold Stone Massage
Cold stones are sometimes used alternately with hot stones.
They have a de-congesting, soothing effect on specific areas, refreshing and stimulating the mind, and can be used to cool the body on a warm day or during hot flushes. It is a very revivifying massage that may help improve circulation and also reduce high blood pressure.
Cold stones can be placed:
- On dark circles that appear under the eyes and relieve tired and puffy eyes
- On the sinus areas to alleviate nasal swelling and reduce sinus congestion
- In the abdominal area, where they can help draw swelling away from the uterus and may ease menstrual discomfort
Clients with sports injuries, such as tendinitis, may also benefit from cold stone massages to soothe inflammation of muscles and joints.

Hawaiian Lomi Massage
Lomi Massage is an ancient form of massage that originated amongst the Pacific Island people.
This Hawaiian healing art has been practised for hundreds of years by master practitioners (Kahuna) and elders (Kupuna), was common within each Hawaiian community and has been used as a powerful tool for maintaining a healthy way of life.
Lomi practices varied by family, region and island and was traditionally practised in four contexts: as a healing practice of native healers, by Masters of the Hawaiian martial arts (Lua), as restorative massage within the family and as a luxury (Kings and rulers).
Hawaiian Lomi is a flowing and dynamic oil massage where the massage therapist uses a combination of long and gentle strokes, incorporating soft and deep tissue massage.
This technique is focused on finding congested areas in the body and dispersing them by moving the forearms and palms in rhythmic dance-like motions that vary in depth and intensity.
The purpose of this beautiful massage, often described as “a dance over the body”, is to help the person to connect and harmonize the mind, body and spirit, and to restore balance and health.
Reiki
Reiki is Japanese for ‘universal life energy’, and is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing developed by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research and experience.
This healing technique is based on the principle that the whole world is made up of energy, energy that nourishes and maintains all living things. This life force, known as ‘Ki’ in Japan, ‘Chi’ in China and ‘Prana’ in India, nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions.
When this energy flows uninterrupted there is balance and harmony within and around us, and we experience a sense of well being. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field re-charging them.
It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body.
Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
Reiki is a tradition that is open to any belief system and it is a process that anyone can enjoy in the normal course of their life and can be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatments..
“Like many others trying to balance work in London with family and time for self can seem an impossible task.
I am also a healer and medium so having my energy levels at peak performance is essential.
My Reiki sessions with Elizabeth give me the opportunity to reconnect at the highest level and to lose all the non essential stresses and pressures. It is a holiday for mind, body and soul as I leave all the negative energies behind and ‘plug in’ to the restorative peace that is Reiki.
In this world of high pressure, constant movement and continual noise I highly recommend Reiki as an essential duty of care to yourself and not an optional extra. Your family and friends will also benefit from the more relaxed you!”
