About Old Georgians’ Hockey Club
The Old Georgians’ Hockey Club (OGHC) are very proud of the success achieved throughout the Club’s short history. The Club aspires to build on this successful hockey tradition, and to continue producing top class players. At the 2008 and 2012 Olympics one of the England hockey stars was James Tindall, who is both an Old Georgian and a player who came thought the OGHC ranks before moving to his current club Surbiton. Tom Doran, also an Old Georgian and OGHC first team player, also represented England A.
The OGHC is also very proud to have a Director of Hockey of the caliber of Royce Waters. Royce is a top class Coach, having coached National League teams including many players who play at International level; included in this are some 2012 Olympic Bronze medal winners. In this, his first year as Director of Hockey for the club, he has already grown the Juniors, the Dragons, from zero to over 200 as well as overseeing all aspects of the adult club coaching.
Finally it remains very important to all at the OGHC that the Club has been built on an ethos of friendship, support, and enjoyment of Hockey and these values will remain hugely important to the Club going forward. So why not come and join us and be part of this exciting club?
OGHC History
In 1965, three ex St. Georges’ College pupils decided to set up a hockey club and they set themselves the ambitious target of becoming a National League hockey side within ten years with the ultimate goal of achieving promotion to the Premier League. To help put this into perspective, it is like a newly formed football team aiming to compete with Chelsea and Arsenal by gaining eight consecutive promotions.
This is exactly what the OGHC has achieved and last season missed out on the promotion playoffs by one point.
Nicky Thompson, our first team player/coach, who overseas all aspects of the clubs coaching, has recently been appointed assistant coach to the England U21 squad reflecting how highly regarded he is.
So why not come and join us and be part of this exciting club?
